‘For my wife and I, it was a bonding experience.’ Parents disappointed as toddler phones in bedtime fight

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (FTN) – A pair of local parents have accused their toddler of ‘phoning it in’ for his bedtime fight.

Ami and Chris Essex are parents to three-year-old Alex.

They told Fake Toddler News getting him to go to sleep for the night has been a little too easy, and they are disappointed,

“There was a game…a tactic to it. For my wife and I, it was a bonding experience. How can we outsmart our toddler. I’ve never been hunting, but I imagine this is what it was like. Sneaking around, putting down bait to try and trick your prey,” Chris said.

He said some of that bait would include stuffed animals or a light up, remote control moon Alex has on his wall.

“It would often be an hour long process…sometimes more,” Ami told us. “Reading, more reading, telling him he has had enough to drink. Some nights it never ended.”

The parents say for the last few weeks, it has been too easy to get Alex to go to bed, and they are a little disappointed.

“There’s no sport in it anymore. He puts up a little bit of a fight, but it is almost like he is just going through the motions. Ami and I will get him to bed around 8:00, and just stand there…like…now what? That was too easy,” Chris said.

Parents believe the change in sleep habits may have something to do with the weather, saying Alex spends much more time outside, wearing him out.

“It kind of makes me sad, it feels like he is growing up. As a first time mom, I am sad,” Ami said.

Alex credits his car bed with the change.

“Go to sleep in the car bed. Where Sully go? Alex said.

  1. I haven’t heard of “phoning it in” – can’t even guess. This article is great, as they all are. Love the comparison to hunting and the idea of bonding together through a challenge and a sport. Your articles are superb. I know there are thousands of parents who can relate and would love to see the humorous side of toddler life. Keep writing. You have a book in the making if it’s your desire.
