TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (FTN) – An outing at a local park had unexpected results for a Terre Haute family on Sunday.
The Essex family went to Deming Park on the city’s east side.
Before they walked out the door, father, 36-year-old Chris Essex grabbed an almost stale loaf of bread.
Chris said it was so his three-year-old son Alex could feed the ducks, if there were any at the park.
“I thought it would be a lot of fun. He loves animals. He loves ducks. What could go wrong?” Chris asked.
When they got to the park, they found ducks.
Alex’s mom, Ami took the bread and guided Alex ahead to the ducks.
“He did not want anything to do with them,” Ami told us. “We walked up to them, the ducks came in our direction…and Alex ran.”
Chris and Ami said they couldn’t tell if Alex was scared, or just wanted to walk on the train tracks for the small train in the park.
That train is not operational this time of year.
“Choo Choo tracks at the park,” Alex said. “Water…yuck.”
The family did a full lap around the parks train tracks before leaving.
