VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (FTN) – A late night cuddle session backfired on two Vigo County parents.
It started Monday night around 10:00.
“I just wanted to cuddle with him. I got him out of his bed an brought him into our bedroom. He was so peaceful and sweet,” Ami Essex said.
Ami is talking about one-year-old Alex Essex.
After putting him to bed around 8:00, the mother of one said she started missing him.
“I thought it was harmless. He was great…until about midnight. That is when all hell broke loose,” Ami told us.
She said the toddler started getting really angry.
This was around the same time his father Chris arrived home from work.
“I get home around midnight…and yes, I asked her to keep him in our bed until I got home…I missed him too, and he looked so sweet in the photos she sent me,” Chris said.
The boy’s father said he started stirring while he was on the phone with his wife during the drive home…that stirring turned into a full-on cry.
“I told her to hang up with me and just calm him down, that I would be in in just a minute, I was just pulling up,” Chris told us.
That stirring turned into a struggle to put the toddler back to bed that lasted until around 1:30.
“He was just…so angry. I mean, I get it, I don’t like being bugged while I sleep…but man, he was so comfortable in our bed,” Ami said.
According to the parents, once the toddler finally made it back to his room and calmed down, he remained restless for the rest of the night.
“Do I regret it? No. I missed his squishy cheeks. Will I do it again…I don’t think so,” Ami said.
Chris told us he predicted it will happen again by next week.
