VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (FTN) – A local toddler is facing charges after police say he was stopped for trafficking tater tots.
It happened Tuesday afternoon during lunch.
According to police one-year-old Alexander Essex was eating lunch when officers noticed the smell of food coming from a toy car he had at the table with him.
When officers conducted a search of the vehicle they found over six tater tots ripped in half and jammed in the car.
Police tell us at one point Essex tried closing his eyes to avoiding detection.
“He was acting very erratic. It seems like it was due to exhaustion. The pre-nap energy burst as it’s best know,” Sheriff Woody said.
Essex was charged with six cases of tot trafficking.
If convicted he is facing a three hour nap.
