TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (FTN) – Will the real Mickey Mouse please stand up?
Some are calling it an identity crisis while other say it is just a case of one child having too many toys.
We are talking about “Duplicate Toy Disorder” or DTD.
It happens when similar toys start making an appearance in the same home.
“I don’t set out to buy the same toy multiple times, most of the time it’s part of a bigger set, or a birthday present I didn’t have the heart to return,” mother, Ami Essex said.
The near duplicate toys tell a different story.
We were able to sit down with three nearly identical Mickey Mouse toys.
One is holding a drink, one is waving empty handed, and one is a slightly different style with legs that bend.
“Yes, it is hard being expendable. I hear the dad ask the kid to go grab a Micky…any one of us work. It hurts to not be unique,” Mickey with a drink said.
But bendy legs Mickey says that can also be their strong point.
“Yeah, there are three of us…but it means we aren’t forgettable. One of usually always be front and center,” bendy legs told us.
No matter the case, this trio says they will enjoy their time together until one of them will either be broken or lost.
“It’s not too bad really, when your kid wants a Mickey…there is usually one nearby!” Essex said.
